6 Condo Improvement Ideas During the Summer
   by Ice Artificio  •  May 10, 2023  •  General

Are y’all feeling that yet? Yup, the summer heat is here.

If this is your first time in the Philippines, you can expect the temperature to rise in the next few months.

Fret not though, because there are several things you can do in your apartment that will benefit from all this heat.

Now that it’s scorching hot outside, it is the perfect time for repairs, maintenance, or any activity that needs drying.

So, here are six condo improvement ideas we’ve gathered to spruce up your home in the best way possible during the summer.

1. Initiate your annual maintenance

If you’re a long-term renter, this definitely should be at the top of your list! Both tenants and landlords will greatly benefit from an annual preventive maintenance.

Check for possible leaks, patch cracks, replace worn out gaskets before they break, and early signs of pests or termites.

Taking these actions will lengthen the life of the apartment and make it more habitable for residents.

2. Paint

Never has there even been a more perfect time to paint your condo, because the ongoing heat will help dry your coats faster.

Less moisture also means better paint adherence and better coats. Just make sure you get permission from your lessor or landlord first before bringing your brushes out.

3. Get your air conditioner cleaned

You simply can’t forget the air conditioner when dealing with this unforgiveable heat! One of the most horrifying things you can encounter is the inside of an ac after two years without cleaning it.

The best advice we can give you? Don’t wait that long and get an expert to do it for you. After all, cleaner air conditioners cool more efficiently and filter air properly.

Talk to your broker, leasing department, or landlord about maintenance. Odds are, they’d be more than happy to keep your rented place in top shape.

4. Give your walls a scrub down

Did you know various oils and smells can stick to your wall?

If your family or friends mention your apartment smells off, dank, or musty--even after after thoroughly cleaning and vacuuming, your walls may be one of the main culprits.

Once done with the much needed scrubbing, let the summer heat do the drying.

5. Check for molds

Look out for areas that do not dry properly like corners of your bathroom or closets underneath your kitchen.

Mold spores, when left unchecked, can be a health hazard that triggers allergies or respiratory problems.

Prevent future growth of molds by reducing moisture, and ensuring normally damp areas are adequately ventilated.

6. Declutter

We know. We’ve mentioned this time and time again. Admit it though, it is necessary. No matter how much you may dislike it.

Think about it this way: decluttering allows you to air out clothes or trinkets that have been gathering dust or are starting to smell old.

The Philippines may not have spring season, but a good general cleaning and decluttering can really help freshen up your home, plus your disposition and mind.

Final thoughts

Of course, you don’t have to do all these by yourself, some of them can be left to the hands of experts. We encourage you to ask your condo’s leasing department or your landlord for suggestions.
