6 Condo Improvement Ideas During the Summer
   by Ice Artificio  •  Apr 25, 2018  •  General
The summer heat is here.

If this is your first time in the Philippines, you can expect the temperature to rise in the next few months.

There are a few things you can do in your apartment that will benefit from all this heat.

Now that it's scorching hot outside it is the perfect time for repairs, maintenance, or any activity that needs drying.

1. Annual maintenance
Both tenants and landlords will greatly benefit from an annual preventive maintenance. Check for possible leaks, patch cracks, replace worn out gaskets before they break, and early signs of pests or termites. This will lengthen the life of the apartment and make it more habitable for residents.

2. Painting
The heat will help dry your coats faster. Less moisture also means better paint adherence and better coats. If you’re renting, just make sure you get permission from your lessor or landlord first before bringing out your brushes.

3. Get your air conditioner cleaned
One of the most horrifying things I discovered as an adult is what an air conditioner looks like after 2 years without cleaning. The best advice I can give you? Don't wait that long and get an expert to do it for you. Also cleaner air conditioners cools more efficiently and filters air properly.

Talk to your broker, leasing department, or landlord about maintenance. Odds are, they’d be more than happy to keep your rented place in top shape.

4. Give your walls a scrub down
Did you know oils and smells stick to your wall? If your mom or friends mention your apartment smells off, dank, or musty--even after after thoroughly cleaning and vacuuming your home, your walls may be part of the culprit. Then let the summer heat do the drying.

5. Check for molds
Look out for areas that do not dry properly like corners of your bathroom or closets underneath your kitchen. Mold spores when left unchecked can be a health hazard triggering allergies or respiratory problems. Prevent future growth of molds by reducing moisture, and ensuring normally damp areas are adequately ventilated.

6. Declutter
We know. We’ve mentioned this so many times. And yet it still rings true. Another good thing when you are decluttering is that you get to air out old clothes or trinkets that have been gathering dust or are starting to smell old and neglected.

We may not have spring season but a good general cleaning and decluttering can really help freshen up your home.

Of course you don't have to do all these by yourself, some of them can be left to the hands of experts. Ask your condo’s leasing department or your landlord for suggestions.
